We work on the basis of regional and local interests

Mid Sweden European Office is the link between the region of Mid Sweden (the counties of Jämtland and Västernorrland) and the EU-level, working as a support for the region when monitoring different policy areas.

Monitoring of policy areas 

Mid Sweden European Office is a tool for the region to monitor specific policy areas decided by the responsible authorities. Within these areas Mid Sweden European Office works to promote the interests of the region by influencing the decision making processes of the EU.

Transnational projects – program monitoring

Mid Sweden European Office monitors the EU’s funds and the financial possibilities offered for transnational projects. This is done with the aim of helping regional actors initiate transnational projects or supporting transnational projects which are of strategic value to the region. Mid Sweden European Office offers support in the initial stage of project applications and help in finding project partners.

Information – spreading of knowledge

Mid Sweden European Office contributes to regional development by providing information about the EU to regional actors but also works to make our region visible at the EU level. Our main means of communication are webpage, newsletters, social media and arrangement of seminars about the EU or specific EU-policies in the region and Brussels based seminars and conferences.

 

Mid Sweden - a successful region

Vision
The vision of the counties of Jämtland and Västernorrland is to be an active and successful European region:

- Actors in the region are  well familiar with and can identify the regional participation in the EU cooperation


- The Mid Sweden region can to a greater extent benefit from the EU membership


- The Mid Sweden region is well prepared for new initiatives from the European institutions concerning the regions prioritized policy areas


- Participation in the making and shaping of EU policies, legislation and financing is an integrated part of working procedures in the region

Purpose

The purpose of the Mid Sweden European Office is to contribute to economic growth in the region by:
- influencing the design of future EU activities
- promoting networking, exchange of best practices and partnerships between the region and other European organizations, enterprises and citizens
- improving the communication between the region and different EU-institutions
- to a greater extent use the opportunities and possibilities to access knowledge and additional resources

The agenda of regional and county councils in Sweden are to 50 % directly or indirectly affected by decisions made by the European institutions in Brussels. For the municipalities and their activities the share is 60 %. Hence it is important for the region to be aware of actualities at the EU-level in order to be able to influence decisions or to be able to adapt to new regulations at an early stage. When creating EU policies and shaping the direction of future developments at EU level there are often possibilities of funding and cooperation involved. The region should make the best use of this through early monitoring of the budget within the prioritized policy areas.



Objective
The objective is to establish a complete procedure where the local and regional stakeholders work together with the EU level as well as the national level.
