Innovation is one of the most important processes in a knowledge-based economy. As part of the smart, sustainable and inclusive growth strategy Europe2020 the European Commission has launched the initiative the Innovation Union that includes the objective that 3% of the EU’s total GDP should be used for research and innovation. The funds for Business and Industry will during the years 2007-2013 partly be taken from the CIP (Competitiveness and Innovation Program) and the structural funds. The European Investment Bank also supports projects and gives loans through public and private actors working on national, regional and local level.

There are several opportunities to take part in EU research and innovation programs to promote growth in the areas of tourism, distance-independent services and green development of business and industry.

Mid Sweden European Office cooperates with representatives for Enterprise Europe Network and other organizations such as ALMI Business Partner and the Chamber of Commerce. Mid Sweden European Office does not work directly with private enterprises since this is part of ALMI’s activities.
