Cohesion Policy

The EU’s Cohesion Policy aims at reducing the economic and social disparities in Europe, with the help of instruments like the structural funds. The Cohesion Policy should increase competitiveness and employment by ensuring that the least prosperous areas or areas suffering from structural problems can achieve sustainable development, while adapting to new conditions on the labour market and to global competition.

During 2011 Mid Sweden European Office will monitor territorial cohesion, the Baltic Sea strategy, the EU’s long-term budget and the development of rural and agricultural policy. We work to influence the future cohesion policy from 2013 and onwards. This work is carried out within the network Northern Sparsely Populated Areas (NSPA) a collaboration between the northernmost regions of Europe (Mid Sweden, North Sweden, North Norway, East Finland and North Finland). The work within the NSPA is supported by  Europaforum Norra Sverige, a political platform for local and regional politicians in the four northernmost counties of Sweden.
